REPLACE WATER MAINS

MIAMI, FLORIDA

Going above and beyond to guarantee safe water supplies FOR MIAMI HEALTHCARE FACILITY

Massive in scope, the work entailed upgrading outdated water mains in Building 1 and analyzing the need to replace the isolation valves. The project involved demolishing existing transit and asbestos water mains that had developed leaks, replacing the underground infrastructure along the associated site work at Building 1 and surrounding areas. The project scope includes removing approximately 1,150 feet of existing 8-inch transite piping installed in 1967 and replacing it with new domestic water mains and sub-mains, as well as replacing isolation valves. This type of piping is very challenging and required special techniques to fix and replace. Some of the water mains ran in the crawl space underneath the buildings on the campus and in chases and developed leaks which required extensive demolition and construction to correct. Richard Group performed a technical evaluation of the existing site conditions utilizing ground penetrating rade (GPR) Electromagnetic Conductivity (EM), Frequency locator, magnetometers and sonar to evaluate existing structural system, utilities and building operations.

The project included site utility verification, utility location, clearing and grubbing, trenching and excavation to include hydro trenching and directional boring, trench shoring, PPC and ACC cut and patching, subgrade compaction, surface restoration, disinfection and biological testing of new work. Richard Group provided water main installations, backflow preventers, domestic service lines, traffic and pedestrian detours and controls.

Working with water requires a great deal of patience, depth of understanding, and innate curiosity to ensure that the systems function as they should and without issue. The team at Richard Group carried all of these qualities in spades and was up for any challenge.
