STERILE PROCESSING SERVICE DEPARTMENT

Multi-phase project completed without compromising important SPS work necessary for critical care.

Office overhaul in Healthcare always poses an interesting set of challenges. Logistical and technical considerations must keep both the patient and workers in mind—even more so when the facility must remain operational throughout construction.

To ensure that no work was interrupted during the renovation of the Sterile Processing Service’s (SPS) space at the Michael E DeBakey Medical Center, Richard Group broke the project into six phases. The scope included architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety work to update the existing 16,500 SF space.

During this project, Richard Group’s knowledge about the Sterile Processing Service’s (SPS) space and how to best care for the space and occupants was invaluable. The team worked to correct operational and environmental controls in Sterile Processing Service (SPS) Decontamination, Sterilization, Prep/Assembly, Pack/Dispatch, and Administrative areas. The project was completed without any complications and setbacks, ensuring those cared for at the Veteran Affairs Hospital never felt an interruption in their service or quality of care.

The work that the Sterile Processing Services department provides is critical to maintaining the safety of the equipment at the Veteran Affairs Hospital. Disruption of that service was not an option for us—proper time management and effective communication strategies were essential to the success of this project.
