UPGRADE STERILE PROCESSING AND ADMINISTRATIVE AREA

danville, illinois

This project effort included architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety work to renovate the existing 2,994 SF Sterile Processing Service (SPS) Decontamination, Sterilization, Prep/Assembly, Pack/Dispatch, Housekeeping Closet, and Administrative areas to correct operational and environmental controls.

This Six-Phase construction project took place in an active hospital in Danville, Illinois. Richard, along with the AE firm helped create modified phasing parameters so that the SPS facility remained occupied and operational throughout construction. In addition, we were able to condense the schedule as a benefit to the facility and expedite the turnover time between areas.

Each ‘phase’ was isolated from the next area to create a barrier between occupied and unoccupied construction areas. Richard demolished existing walls to expand the SPS center to accommodate the new STERIS equipment and provide new administrative spaces.

Richard worked alongside and coordinated the STERIS equipment procurement and installation with the manufacture as a benefit to the VA Facility. With the understanding of the space and connections required for the equipment, Richard took the lead in ensuring that all equipment was coordinated prior to procurement for our MEP systems. Furthermore, we helped track procurement and installation and ensured the equipment integrated into our progress on the construction schedule.

Richard procured and installed a new HVAC unit on the exterior of the building and fed all piping and ductwork through the exterior into the space. Richard Group provided improvements to the existing reverse osmosis (RO) system to include a new RO loop with recirculation lines as well as a new UV light and 0.2 Micron filters.  The electrical upgrades included (5) new branch panels that fed from the existing electrical room to the space and  included new Life Safety Power, Normal Power, Critical Power, Equipment Power, and LED Lighting;  All new feeders were installed at off hours to ensure no hospital operations were impacted. Furthermore, there was all new lighting and lighting controls to occupy the space as well as all new access control and fire alarm upgrade.

“Richard Group did an exceptional job managing the project. An excellent CPM schedule was initially established which set the tone for timely material and equipment submittals by subcontractors.”
