PHYSICAL THERAPY AND REHABILITATION CENTER

NORTH CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

Reimagined space provides additional exam rooms, more privacy for patients, and thoughtful wayfinding.

Richard Group prioritized the patient experience by taking into account safety, accessibility, wayfinding, and privacy issues when revising this space for a physical therapy and rehabilitation center.

At this active healthcare facility, we renovated and modernized 7,000SF of space, created efficient wayfinding, and provided sustainable, energy-efficient systems and finishes. Our work involved comprehensive building systems infrastructure upgrades, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, telecommunications, and fire protection, as well as room reconfiguration, new interior construction, site work, and site utility upgrades. For this highly complex project, Richard managed multiple trades and specialty subcontractors and earned an Exceptional Ratings from the project owner.

Work took place concurrently on multiple floors within a major wing of the hospital, which affected several critical patient care spaces and required careful work sequencing and close coordination with the  facility and end users. To mitigate disruption to ongoing patient care, we supplied temporary air handlers (AHUs) on a rotating basis to accommodate airflow and humidity constraints in each area. We also facilitated tie-in to the BAS to allow the facility to continuously monitor all systems for patient safety.

The new layout includes a more comfortable waiting area as well as additional private physical therapy exam rooms, helping to facilitate the needs and well-being of the people served.

By focusing on improved patient outcomes, Richard Group worked to create a better working environment for the St. Matoc personnel to help the people they serve live happier and fuller lives.
